Typografika

Erik Brandt is a graphic designer and educator who has been active since 1994, when his career began as a cartoonist in Japan. He is currently Chair of the Design Department and Professor of Graphic Design at MCAD (Minneapolis College of Art and Design) in Minneapolis, Minnesota, and is a member of the Alliance Graphique Internationale (AGI). He maintains a small graphic design studio, Typografika (Visual Communication und Konditorei), and curated Ficciones Typografika, a project dedicated to typographic exploration in public space.

Brandt earned his MFA at Virginia Commonwealth University, studying under Akira Ouchi, John Malinoski, Rob Carter, Ben Day, and Mary McLaughlin, before forming his first studio and eventually settling on the name Typografika — a nod to old Czech typographic unions that also reflects the strongly typographic nature of his work. His work has been published and exhibited internationally, and he's also received recognition for his short films. He authors the design blog Geotypografika.
