Gail Bichler is the creative director of The New York Times Magazine, where she leads design and art direction for the print magazine, its digital content and supplements. She's been with the magazine for over 20 years, becoming creative director in 2014, and has guided it to seven consecutive Design Team of the Year honors from the Art Directors Club, multiple Brand of the Year wins from the Society of Publication Designers, and a 2023 Pulitzer Prize for illustrated reporting.
Bichler began her career at a Chicago studio before launching her own practice in Minneapolis, then moved to New York in 2004 to join the Times. A member of Alliance Graphique Internationale and former board member of the Society of Publication Designers, she has taught and lectured internationally on editorial design.
