Niklas Troxler & Götz Gramlich

Niklaus Troxler and Götz Gramlich are two generations of Swiss and German poster design, bound by a shared teacher-student legacy. Born in 1947 in Willisau, Switzerland, Niklaus is a legendary graphic designer best known for the striking jazz posters he's created since founding his own studio in 1973 — work rooted in the rhythm and improvisation of the music itself. He organized the Willisau Jazz Festival for decades, and his posters are held in major collections including MoMA New York, the Stedelijk Museum and the Museum für Gestaltung Zürich. An AGI member since 1989, he later taught at the State Academy of Fine Arts Stuttgart.

Götz Gramlich, born in Heidelberg in 1974, got his start as an assistant in Troxler's studio before founding his own, gggrafik, in 2005. He's built a practice around cultural commissions — theatre identities, music festivals, and institutions like ZKM Karlsruhe — and co-founded Mut zur Wut, a political poster festival staged on the streets of Heidelberg. An AGI member, he's also president of the "100 Beste Plakate" poster competition.

Together, they trace an unbroken thread in European poster design — from mentor to protégé, jazz clubs to political street galleries.
